Fashion World dolls and outfits were another popular and mainly successful competitor to Topper's Dawn dolls. Made by the Dandee Toy Manufacturing Company, the fashions sometimes bore resemblances to Topper fashions, but there were enough new designs to help expand the wardrobe of the number-one-selling mini-fashion doll of the 1970's (that would be...Dawn). The Fashion World dolls were sold separately, in a polka-dotted, halter-neck mini dress that varied only in color from doll to doll. None of the Fashion World outfits had names.

Dandee Toy Co. produced fashions in a dark purple box with a city scene, as well as in a lighter purple box with orange print. Since none are dated, I'm uncertain as to which were produced first, but my guess would be that the dark-purple-boxed fashions came out first. The plainer boxes may have been manufactured later to help cut costs, but that's just my uneducated guess.
LIGHT PURPLE BOXED FASHIONS
Back of light purple box
Although some manufacturers showed pictures of the other available fashions, this one only shows two.
The dark purple box shows no other available fashions.
Blue jumpsuit Fuschia and gold evening gown
(This outfit is very similar to one made by Premier, with the same gold fringe trim at the hem, but no sheer cape.)
Yellow baby-doll nightie with sheer green peignoir
Green tunic and skirt
This fashion is very similar to Topper's "Town 'n Tailored"
Leopard-print coat
Pink felt coat with striped scarf
(A nearly-identical fashion was made by Premier. Look carefully at the order of stripes in the scarf to tell the difference, if you find them together.)
Orange pantsuit
Mod-print satin mini-dress
Purple vinyl raincoat with "spaceman" hood
(This was a very popular design by many manufacturers. One day I'll put up a page to show the subtle differences.)
Pink lace pantsuit
(Another outfit nearly identical to M&S Shillman and Premier fashions. The belt is the key: Fashion World's is green, Premier's is black, and Shillman's doesn't have a belt at all.)
Long-sleeved red mini dress
Red and gold diamond brocade tunic
Red & silver metallic tunic
Red and silver poncho set
(In the private collection of Peggy Coleman)
Red raincoat
(Another design sold by other manufacturers.)
Striped mini
Very similar to Topper's
"Huggly Snuggly" mini
Wedding Dress
(The lace pattern on this gown is similar to M&S Shillman's "Swinging Scene" wedding gown.)
Yellow evening gown with sheer orange evening wrap
This one is in my collection, but it's missing the sheer orange chiffon wrap.
Yellow skirt set
(This outfit is very similar to Topper's "Strawberry Sundae".)
Pink evening gown
(In the private collection of Peggy Coleman)
DARK PURPLE "CITY SCENE" BOXED FASHIONS
The problem with the tights is that if the doll wears them, it's impossible to get the shoes on, much less make them stay on. But they look adorable! I'm not sure which way I prefer---with shoes, or without.
Blue mini with lace tights
Brocade mini-coat
(This brocade coat seems to have been sold in a variety of brocade fabric colors and patterns.)
Gold and black pantsuit
Gold and silver lame jumpsuit
Floral jumpsuits
(There are two variations - one with blue flowers, one without.)
Clown suits, anyone?
Candidates for "What Not To Wear".
Anyway you look at it, these outfits spell "Fashion Disaster"!
Mod, swirl-print jumpsuit
(
Another variation on the jumpsuit, this time with a mod, swirled print.)
Orange diamond brocade mini-coat Orange-fringed halter-top and pants
When I first saw the photo of this outfit, I thought the top was a poncho. Then I actually acquired it and realized it's a halter-top. I LOVE this outfit! It's easily my favorite Fashion World fashion.
Party dress with brocade bodice and lace skirt
Oriental-style black metallic tunic
This design was also used by Petite; out of the box it would be very difficult to tell whether it was made by Petite or Fashion World, but in any case I wanted to showcase some of the variations in bodice brocade and skirt lace here.
This pantsuit appears to be red or orange, but that could just be poor lighting, and it might be pink, as seen at left.
Pink lace dress
Pink pantsuit
Wedding Dress
(Nearly identical to Topper's "Wedding Bell Dream", except for the veil and bouquet.)
A tennis racket???
Who would play tennis in this???
